Nobody has ever gained weight from açaí. The purple stuff itself — pure açaí purée — runs about 70–100 calories per serving, per Sambazon’s own numbers and Healthline’s breakdown. What happens on top of it is a different story: shop bowls commonly land between 300 and 600 calories, and the loaded ones push past 800.
Here’s where the numbers actually come from, so you can build (or order) with your eyes open.
The anatomy of the count
| Component | Typical amount | Approx. calories |
|---|---|---|
| Pure açaí base | 1 packet / scoop | 70–100 |
| Sweetened açaí sorbet base | same size | 150–250 |
| Granola | ½ cup | 120–200 |
| Banana | 1 sliced | ~100 |
| Berries | ½ cup | 30–40 |
| Peanut butter / Nutella drizzle | 1 tbsp | 90–100 |
| Honey drizzle | 1 tbsp | ~60 |
Two identical-looking bowls can be 350 and 750 calories. The difference is invisible from above: what the base is made of, and how many drizzles happened.
The three calorie multipliers
- The base swap. Pure açaí purée vs sweetened sorbet is the biggest hidden variable — the sorbet version can double the base before a single topping lands. (Ask what the base is; shops that use pure purée will tell you proudly.)
- The granola pour. Granola is dense — half a cup is a reasonable crunch layer, but plenty of shops pour a full cup, which alone can match the entire açaí base.
- Drizzle stacking. Honey and peanut butter and Nutella is 250+ calories of topping on your topping.
How our bowls are built
At the Açaí Station we keep the construction visible — real açaí base, real fruit, and you can see exactly what goes on:
- Original Bowl ($12.99) — granola, strawberry, banana, blueberries. The baseline: fruit does the sweetening.
- PB Lovers ($13.99) — adds coconut, cacao nibs and peanut butter. The most calorie-dense bowl we make, and worth it post-training.
- Nutella Bliss ($13.99) — the treat lane, and we call it that honestly.
- Create Your Own ($12.99) — four toppings of your choice; go all-fruit and it’s the lightest bowl on the board.
We don’t publish per-bowl calorie counts yet — the ranges above are component math from public nutrition data, not lab numbers. What we can promise: no sweetened sorbet base, no syrup you didn’t ask for.
The order-smart version
Post-workout or as a meal: any bowl works — the calories are doing a job. Watching intake: Original or an all-fruit Create Your Own, and skip the extra drizzle. Either way you’re better off than with the 800-calorie smoothie-shop mystery cup — at least the bowl shows you everything it’s made of.
